Art Bio

Brandon Clarke’s work aims to spark awareness and surprise to his viewer in order to encounter a fundamental question: “Who are you, really?” The main concept of Clarke’s art explores all the dimensions of the traditional canvas structure itself. Clarke accomplishes this by juxtaposing various techniques within the backside of the canvas to expose hidden messages. In addition, Clarke’s technique and material choices express literally and metaphorically characteristics on the canvas to imply the question of, “Who are we really within the framework of our lives?”

Clarke currently lives and works in Miami, Florida. With creative roots as a second-generation artist, Clarke’s artistic background with his grandmothers’ painters’-hand, has given him a unique way to express his work. This only validates Clarke’s multiple awards and publications. Including publications from The Miami Herald, Artist Talk Magazine, and Miami Living Magazine. In addition, Clarke was chosen to be an exhibiting artist for Point Comfort’s Art Fair, while also asked to be a guest panelist for the galleries subject of,” Images of Social Justice.” Clarke also was interviewed as a guest on several podcasts such as, The Florida Home Show Podcast in episode 15, and So Glad You’re Here Podcast episode 2. Furthermore, Clarke’s works remain in private collections across the United States and Internationally.

Artist Statement

My art focuses on the power of self-awareness through juxtaposition of form and color on a canvas. I use words, color, and compositions on a canvas to spark awareness and surprise in order to encounter a fundamental question: “Who are you, really?”  The physical and visual tension in my work guides our ability to seek truth by honoring our brokenness. Although I mostly works with acrylics, spray paint, and pastels, I also encompasses other mixed media into my work when needed. This helps my viewers see the many visual entry-points and feel at liberty to apply their own experiences to the marks on the canvas. My work expresses through material, color, and context the most important part of authenticity, which is transparency.
